Foreigner comes good

A friend from New Zealand was visiting and as he has been good angling host when I have stayed with him, I lent him my tackle and set him going at Kinlet on Sunday. After several hours snatching bleak and minnows he noticed a large perch taking an unhealthy interest in the contents of the keepnet, On further inspection there were not one but two or three seriously big perch loitering in the margins, and on one occasion bringing a small fish in Martin found himself connected to this cracking perch. He's used to playing much bigger fish than this but not on English tackle! The perch weighed 3lbs. Martin's best and probably bigger than any I have had.

There was almost a repeat performance, curtailed when a medium-sized pike seized the perch, needless to say all three parted company.

Warrants some attention from serious perch fishers.

Cheers

Re: Foreigner comes good

I recognise those perch! Had the shock of my life at Kinlet last year, June 16th actually, when a seriously large perch appeared in the narrow gap between my keepnet and the bank, literally a couple of feet below me and within touching distance. A few feet to the left was another one, possibly even bigger. Both were 3lb plus. It stayed around for a good ten minutes, just sizing up what was in the keepnet and working out whether it was worth hanging around for the end of the session. Beautiful condition fish the pair of them, I vowed there and then to come back and try out a lure. Haven't done it yet.
