Re: What can be caught on the R.Stour

A great catch of fish Stew.
Clean healthy fish. Two of those bream look to have a touch of roach in them?
A 2Ib perch from this water is a great catch. Water must be healthy.

Re: BAA's section of the R.Stour work by the EA.

Hi Stew,
I too have bumped into 'the chap on the bike'. A great source of info.
I spent a good length of time talking to him and he mentioned the fish to be found in Smestow brook. He may have mentioned a few carp in there, as a lot of the pools around that area are linked to the brook. An interesting informative chap. He has quite a collection of centrepins which he uses.

Re: Roach fishing - Staffs-Worcs Canal

Hi Yorkie and Stew,
Two interesting posts.
Nice one for sticking at the venue Yorkie even though it has 'switched off ' and you have had a few blanks. A comprehensive write up. 24Ib in 2.5hrs back in the day on a canal, great going! Thanks.
An honest post regarding bites on the inside in the last hour Stew. Just when we think we have it sussed it all changes. Nice to hear you had a canal chub, I have yet to catch a proper one from the cut.
My mind went to the match we fished at Swindon, I drew a peg I have fished so often, producing skimmers (up to 4 or5) up to 1 1/4Ib on the short pole. A pound or two of fish was guaranteed .....smiling smiling ... I had it sussed. Five hours later for ounces of fish I realised I hadn't. sad
Keep on fishing smiling

Re: Wishing all d’anglers many Tight Lines and Bulging Nets for a Happy New Year - Keep on Fishing

Yes Reg, keep on fishing.
I had to drop my wife off in Swindon on Saturday, so rather than go home and return thought I would spend and hour or so using a method I had seen a chap using successfully on the SW canal.
He was using a VMC swivel hook and drop shotting with a worm. Using this method he had caught many perch and chub to 5Ib over the years.
I gave it a go, had one slight indication, but all I had to show at the end was a dry net and cold fingers. First dry net of the New Year. Will give it another go as and when. One chap was leaving after dead baiting roach for pike, but had no runs. He caught one the week before. A lad turned up with a lure to try as I left, so there must be a pike or two about.
As you say Reg, better to be out and catching nowt, than sitting at home.

Re: Roach fishing - Staffs-Worcs Canal

Some nice fish by the sound of it Stew. A lovely perch over 2Ib.
That last hour or so can usually be relied upon for a bite or two.
If you don't get a touch then its been a bad day.....
