Re: Pike grabbing roach at Fladbury

Thanks for the replies guys - I'll have to persevere with the lures if/when it happens to me next time as I do like the roach fishing on that stretch. Obviously a pike attack can happen anywhere but I've never known anywhere where it's as common as Fladbury .............At least it's not just me smiling

Pike grabbing roach at Fladbury

Hi - I've had some cracking roach out of Fladbury in the last year or so but have a constant problem on the peg by the brook with pike grabbing the hooked fish (especially the bigger ones) - This has resulted in me having to bully the better fish to the net to try and avoid a pike grabbing them and the inevitable bitten through line or fish being pulled off.

On the whole the bullying tactic worked the other day and i had 4 x 1lb+ roach but lost a really big specimen as I rushed to get it in and unfortunately the hook pulled out.

In the past I have tried to catch the pike on a lure but they ignore it, only to attack again as soon as a decent roach is on - I don't pike fish so have no real appetite to live bait for them but really want to enjoy the roach without the pike hassle - Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so what have you done to counteract it ??

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Coming from the perspective of "not really knowing how things used to be" as I only joined the BAA last year and had previously only fished the Teme once (at Tenbury about 30 years ago) I have really enjoyed the different challenges the Teme has given me compared to my usual Severn/Stour/Avon etc in the last few months or so.

I've found a number of fishable pegs both for float and feeder on the Eardiston/Lindridge sections -admittedly there isn't loads of them and you have to walk about a bit to find them but there seems enough for the amount that fish it (certainly in the winter).

I've had the joy of my first ever grayling and have now caught them on every trip so far (upto just over a pound) a bonus trout and some really good chub when I've switched from maggots to meat - Hopefully I'll catch my first Teme barbel for 30 years at some point (I had a few on that one session in 1990 ish !!) but up to now I've tended to choose the Teme when the temp is down as the grayling seem to oblige in cold conditions when other fish are not so keen to feed.

It isn't the most accessible of rivers but having fished the Worcs Stour a lot over the last few years I've got used to "Jungle fishing" - So personally I love the wildness of it.

Re: Salwarpe when the Severn is up

Gave the Salwarpe a try a week or so ago when the Severn was up - Bit of a struggle to be honest, just a couple of bleak in 3 hours - Was very chocolate brown though, so will try again when the colour is better (lovely looking river)

Guy who was piking by the mouth (didn't catch) mentioned that plenty of Zander were coming out of the Severn but apologies I can't remember where he was referencing

Re: Salwarpe when the Severn is up

Thanks Dave - I might give it a try next time the conditions suit - I try a mobile approach - Cheers
