Re: Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

Stew;- In answer to your question NO we do not allow night fishing.
I am a bit surprised at your question and perhaps it shows that you are missing the point here.

GirlingAS do not allow night fishing, Bivvies or heavy pre-baiting. We are an affordable members only club and do not issue day permits. Fishing is allowed during day light hours only. The reason we do not allow night fishing and heavy pre-baiting is because we are a match fishing oriented club and heavy pre-baiting is detrimental to the fishery.

We have 3 Bailiffs and the fishery is visited every day. We can only manage the stretch from the Left Hand bank and we have to rely on the BAA to manage the Right Bank, that's where the problem lies. It seems clear to me that the BAA puts profit before fishery management.

The local villagers of Fladbury are becoming increasingly concerned about the way that some of the anglers allowed to fish the right bank behave and I am afraid that this will affect both banks. As I said earlier, we have built up a repore with the villagers over the years and in recent seasons we have had many local anglers join us.

The BAA is clearly putting to much pressure on the fishery and the village and when the Barbel have gone or the villagers get together they may realise that profiting in the short term was perhaps not the best approach.
Stop Night Fishing and all of the problems are resolved.

Re: Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

Guys,
I started this post because of concern about the long term affect on the fishery and the adverse reaction from the villagers towards angling.

Girling Angling Society on the opposite bank have been visiting and fishing Fladbury for over 70 years and we have built a repore with the locals we meet and in the last 2 or 3 years many locals have joined the Society, we don't want this destroyed by idiots allowed onto the fishery by an Association that doesn't care.

Stew;- I understand the difficulties in policing the stretch at night (as you say) and that alone is a good reason to stop the practice. You have to consider the insignificant profit made by the BAA in allowing night fishing, is it worth it?

Guys, forget all this defensive bullshit, it seems that anyone who talks sense on here gets shot down. You have to accept that night fishing at Fladbury will eventually destroy the fishery, cannot be controlled and should be stopped. How many times have we seen Barbel fisheries destroyed by allowing intensive fishing.

Assuming these guys purchased a permit to night fish and are known, what does the BAA plan to do about it?

Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

On the 27th August a couple of GirlingAS members witnessed two guys at Fladbury on the BAA bank with Bivvies filling in the river with bait and throwing beer bottles on to the island.
The land owner of the right bank and the land owner of the island would be appalled at their behavior. The BAA must know who these guys are assuming they made a booking to night fish the stretch.
We are a match fishing club and using Carp methods to catch Barbel by heavy pre-baiting and using bolt rigs is destroying the stretch. How much does the BAA earn by allowing these idiots to night fish the stretch? I'm sure that at the end of the day when the Barbel have gone the answer will be that it wasn't worth it.
I will wait for a response from the BAA but I don't expect any action. This leaves me no alternative but to talk to the owner of the right bank to get night fishing on the BAA right bank of Fladbury stopped once and for all.

Re: Electrofishing the Birmingham Worcester canal

We (GirlingAS) fished Blackpole last Saturday (4th April 2021) and we all struggled, only a few bits were caught. We have Tibberton this Saturday (27/4/2021).

We choose these venue and accept the distance because these canal venues produce. My members will want answers before the weekend, it's a long way to drive to then blank.
The questions they will be asking are;-
(1) Has the fishing been affected at Tibberton, should we transfer to another venue?
(2) Have native fish been removed?
(3) Why does the BAA not keep members informed, allowing clubs to travel to affected venues?

Come on John, it's time you kept the members better informed about occurrences like this, can you make a statement on this issue?
