Re: Cleeve Prior

Thanks.

I looked at the Coucil meeting minutes and it seems that the Council's travellers site will be closing in May 18. I can't find out anything about the adjoining private travellers site, apart from a press report of a Police raid in July, finding two stolen motor bikes, two stolen caravans and a cannabis farm. And they arrested someone on suspicion of burglary. Nice people, then.

I asked locally and it seems that the traveller kids think Stubbs Pool is their swimming pool and disrupt fishing there. I was advised not to go down there again on my own.

Sad situation.

Cleeve Prior

I have read some old threads saying there is a problem with travellers and not to fish there alone. There is clearly a permanent travellers site visible on Google Earth. I went last week, before I read the threads, but did not have a problem. I have since made further enquiries locally and been told that the travellers think Stubbs Pool is their swimming pool and not to go to there, although the tracks to the river are clearly well used, but is this just weekend matches?

Any other recent experience of casual fishing there? Is this just a problem with fishing the pool?

Re: Cleeve Prior

Hi

I joined the BAA last week. I did not know about the travellers issue before I fished here (section 5) yesterday, 17/8/17. Had I known I would not have gone. However, I had no problem at all. It is true that there is a permanent travellers site adjacent to the river (you can see it on google earth) and it seems the access track is little utilised, as I had to clear a fallen tree and negotiate other stuff.

I hope this site is not being abandoned (I note there is no description of the adjacent Stubbs Pool on the website).

I do not want to see the Gypsies ruin things and if other people have fished there with no problem, maybe they could say so here. Alternatively, if I just got lucky and got away without getting my gear nicked, I would like to know this also, as it seems a decent stretch of river, which I would like to fish again.
