The track is a health hazard to a car. It’s a good distance to walk, so can it be repaired?

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

The problem here is the access track isn’t our land so we have to rely on the farmer to maintain it.With all the heavy farming vehicles and machinery going over it,it soon gets churned up when it’s wet.The last time I was down there a few years back it was terrible but I doubt the farmer cares much for the ease of our access.Even minor repairs like filling the holes would be useless as soon as it’s wet and a few heavy farming vehicles go over it.

Ok. If the baa rent the fishing rights does the rent include essential repairs. If not can the rental agreement be amended to include maintenance of track. It may cost more but it would be worth it for al the fishing that is not taking place.

I don’t know the exact responsibilities in the lease word for word. All I know is we don’t own the land because if we did then I’m sure the track would be easier to maintain.I agree that the track is in a bad way and is difficult to navigate with a standard road car but I think any improvements would have to be negotiated with the land owner/farmer and to be honest they aren’t always that cooperative with us anglers.

Stew I agree land owners are not the most cooperative at times but let’s be honest if the fishery isn’t accessible to the majority of members is it really worth having?. I love that area of river but not to the point of ripping the floor out of my motor. Is there not the possibility of another track down the side of the field similar to Fladbury?
Ultimately the owner wants to rent or he doesn’t, if he doesn’t let’s take the cash elsewhere where it can benefit the members.

The difference with Fladbury is we own the land so we are able to put a better track down as with Blackstone too for example.

The next stretch along at Harvington that used to be Lucas waters is no longer used and might be a better alternative if the BAA could get them

the next stretch after the BAA that was Lucas angling is Astwood bank angling club.
believe the caravan site has the rights on first meadow.
Then ABAC has the next 5 meadows down.

I stand corrected. Great stretch though. Anyone fished Cleeve Prior at Stubbs end recently and has traveller problems abated?

I fished Stubbs pool the track down to the pool is as bad as Salford sounds and there is a abandoned car but didn't see any travellers .how many more venues are out there that we are paying for but can't fish. There is very little information on the website and you don't find out how bad the track is until you get there

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

dont think its fair to say venues we paying for but cant fish. as all our venues can be accessed via footpaths, Yes it nice to park right next to river and have a short walk. but we have miles and miles of river .
I love Cropthorne and thats 12 sections and only one "next to river" carpark. it a right old walk so soon learn to thin gear out.
We have some top fishing on the avon and severn that we don't have to walk far. but plenty that we do. yet for the amount we pay. its more than worth it smiling

If you take the two venues we are talking about the car park is at the end of the tracks in question not at the start of them

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

i know all the venues very well. esp salford and down to stubbs
Stu has said nothing we can do about the track to the river at salford.
the track to stubbs sometimes gets "graded" .
i do understand you don't want to damage your car but of all our fishing tracks salford possibly the worse. its ok when dry. and when wet you just have to remember when the deeper holes
not the best but not much we can do pal. sad

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

Be interesting to have another questionnaire survey put out again by the Baa to see what venues are being fished and what people want. I used to love fishing Salford Priors when I was younger always had a great days fishing I remember when you used to park by the church one hell of a walk that used to be.

I dont fish as much as I would like these days and there is nothing worse than buying all your bate then a 2 hour drive only to find out once you get to the water you cant fish because of access issues or pegs etc.

I would rather the baa get rid of the venues not being fished and concentrate on turning the ones left into super venues with great access, parking and pegs.

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

David I see where you are coming from but even if Salford Priors was our only fishery it wouldn’t change the fact that we don’t own the land you have to cross to access the fishery! So we still wouldn’t be able to do much, the farmer probably isn’t too bothered about anglers cars as long as he can farm his land.

Look at places like Fladbury and Blackstone, that’s what we can do with regards to access and pegs when we own the land!

Re: Repair to track at Salford priors

Totally agree with you Stew Fladbury is a premier venue for the baa. Shame we dont have more like it to take the pressure off it a bit.

Out of interest Stew do you know how many venues the baa own the land?

I take it we have a lease on the fishing rights at salford for however long so its not just a case of giving venues up? Is that how it works?

Do the baa actually own the fishing rights outright on some venues? Sorry for all the questions pal just interested in how these things work

All the best Dave

atlast you say and I quote ''don't think its fair to say venues we paying for but cant fish. as all our venues can be accessed via footpaths, Yes it nice to park right next to river and have a short walk. but we have miles and miles of river ''

If you take the BAA stretch on the Severn between Deerhurst and Apperley . You cant fish it because the whole length of it is over grown and there is not a single peg or swim that any one can fish ? I am curious to know if the BAA owns the land ? Its such a pity that it has been left neglected and no body can fish it .
