With snow on the ground, none stop rain, air temp of 2.5*C and water temp of 3.5*C, I couldn't believe my luck today when I caught not one but 5 Staffy Chub at Ashwood this afternoon.
Weighing 2lb 4oz, 2lb 10oz, 2lb 13oz, 2lb 15oz and 3lb dead, they certainly tested out the action of a new pole top section that BIN put together for me a couple of weeks ago but I hadn't had chance to test out until today. Its first test was a 2lb 10oz Chub and it arced round beautifully.
Thanks BIN and let it be said that Lone D'Angling seems to suit me best and I'll be no threat in next years matches. Its unlikely that this shoal would have turned up in a summer contestsmiling

Amendment: I weighed each Chub as I caught it before popping it in the keepnet, the bits of Perch & Roach I weighed on their own at the end of the session (1lb 1oz). Cold, tired and hungry when I got home I added up the total weight of the Chub incorrectly. Only after posting the photo did I do a recount and realised my error. They totalled 13lb 10oz so the total catch weighed 14lb 11oz, not 14lb 1oz as the title of the photo suggests.

A lovely net of chub.
The colour of the fish almost reflects the cold air temperature.
Just rewards for your efforts Stew.smiling

Well done Stew,
That is a marvellous bag of Chub and bits that would have smashed our Contests.

It is a true testimony to your proven method and skill of fishing on the Staffy.
Thanks for sharing.

Keep on Fishing….

Re: Ashwood SW canal winter Chub

Thanks all for your praise but at the end of the day my posts are all about the quality of the fishing on BAA waters, not my somewhat unconventional methods of catching them.
To reflect back on some of my previous posts, there are still double figure Teme Barbel to be caught at Lindridge and the likes, there are large Brown Trout in the R. Stour at Stourton, hefty Nordley 2 Carp can be caught on a small piece of meat on the pole and Big Perch, Chub and Bream are present in the Staffs Worcester.
Glad I rejoined the BAA again back in 2019.
