Re: birds meadow

well i dont know how to put this ...Unlike the previous days it was overcast with the promise of rain , so the chances of someone landing a bream was defiantly on the cards.. one of my brothers who is very good at bleak bashing drew next to me and said that was going to be his approach. i set up a 8 meter bollo rod (that's 24 foot in old money ) and a 50 gram cage feeder .. the 24 foot bollo never got me anywhere near the bottom even though the river was down.. the whistle went and i chucked in 10 tennis size balls of groundbait full of chopped worm ,corn , casters .. and dropped my feeder over the top. well after 10 minuets boom, i had a skimmer . Small but it was a skimmer none the less, so my hopes were up ..after the first hour i heard my brothers feeder hit the water which told me the bleak wasn't about.. iv got 4 skimmers by now , he had 3 bleak and a perch so gave up on it...Next 2 hours not a bite so in frustration i walk up to see my mate dave ( hes always good for a few fish ) he said to me , Its sh1t BIN im only got 4 skimmers , well what a coincidents so had i ...so off i go back to my peg to try harder. having asked everyone i passed it was apparent it was hard going and i was doing ok .. when the final whistle went and id managed 9 skimmers.. i was happy with that ... untill dave walked passed with the scales and told me he had 19 skimmers and 2 very big bream in the last hour or so ..... So not only didnt i win but we were all beat up and put to shame by a fantastic net of fish from Dave.. having spoke to him after the only differance we did was,, i was throwing about 10 meters and he was chucking a good 3/4 over the far side where he had seen bubbles coming up in a line....well like i said before , every day is a school day ,, i know for next time.
Ill post all the results on the match fishing page just now..

we weighed his bream separate .. ....6lb 2 ounce & 6lb 11ounce + 19 skimmers

birds meadow

Not the best conditions for a match on the severn what with the water being so low ..but down there its really deep usually so hopefully the bream might still show up..or is it worth the time waiting only to find they dont.....these are the decisions you have to make....maybe its better to catch the silvers from the off. at least your putting fish in the net , but always in the back of your mind ,knowing that it only takes a couple of skimmers or a chub to beat you .....oh well ill decide tomorrow ....

Re: Raw Meat

Well there you go .. if John Williams says its ok then that's all you need to know..
fair play to you for trying it and i hope it brings you a few fish in the future.
A couple of years ago during lockdown me and my lad went to the local lake to fish and he went to Greggs on the way ..well to cut a long story short he battered me on the day with skimmers that he swears to this day he caught on sausage meat which he got from Gregg's sausage rolls..
i believe him..
good luck to ya....
please keep us updated on your achievement's

Oh no ...Meatman .that's a shame you wont make it on the 16th but its a good call ,,your health comes first.. I hope your surgery goes smoothly and is a success and your recovery is swift.. hopefully we can look forward to seeing you on the cut 7th October..
Dont worry about the weigh in i was going to walk along with you anyway just incase there were any questions about the scales you might come across (tare ,, wetting the net ,,ect).. myself and others normally follow the scales round because its nice to look at the fish being caught and talking about methods at the time ...( Better than just reading them on the board after and saying nothing)..
Anyway i don't want to stop anyone else putting there hand up to weigh in the more the merrier in my opinion , sometime you need 3 pairs of hands , even if its just to return the fish or fill in the board... so feel free gents , if you fancy a go just let Reg know and im happy to step back... l posted on here before ..i will help as much or a little as you require...

REG... nice one for putting up your post about your day at ladyham , it gives everyone something to think about.. i too have been up there last Sunday . i didn't fish i walked the length with my misses just to see what we was up against getting the pegs in. ITLL BE FINE..
I noticed there was a match in the next meadow ( on the private waters ..the gate next to ours )
so i walked that stretch aswell, it was about half way through the match and a few blokes were admitting to 3 to 4 pound of silvers,, everyone had something but again no bream showing....
i didnt stay till the final weigh in as i was offered a pint in the camp at Grimley.. but bream or not .. if there is silvers to go for we have a match on..

STEW1955
as a fellow pegger Ill be there about 7 oclock on the 16th .. just to ensure we have time to get them in before the crowd arrives at 8 ....just incase we need to inform anyone about any thing , and make sure we have a peg sorted for Dave & Brian...
safety is paramount for all of us..
next is fun .
to be honest fishing comes last ...lol looking forward to seeing you all on the 16th..
