Re: Booked Waters & “Fisheries Work Plan” - Updates May 1st for Work 4th May

Great…..we have a match there Sunday so that should be fun lol.Frustrating thing is there’s nothing we can do unless they are launching them from our land

Re: How to use BAA maps & anyone got the what3words for both ends of Hampton Loade 'B' please?

The upstream end of the stretch is easy to find. The postcode is for the Unicorn pub which is just to the left of our car park.Or follow the signs for the unicorn off the main road and keep going do en the lane to the river until you see our car park which is clearly marked, you can’t go wrong.I have never used the parking at the other end but looking at it you go past the caravan park towards the footbridge and park there.Best thing to do is go and have a look and see what pegs you want to fish and which is the shortest walk

Re: The Latest News = May Upper Severn Report & Photos of the Strimming at Aberbechan

Exactly Paul, unfortunately some people expect everything to be done for them.Including checking local traffic reports.I mean surely you would check your route on some sort of sat nav while we are on the subject of technology? It says on the directions too on some venues that the postcode is the nearest one to the car park and not the exact location. These will be the same people moaning when membership goes up because of the need to employ an I.T department!

Re: Where's the link to BAA affiliated clubs open to new members please?

I’m pretty sure if you asked the office they could provide you a list of affiliated clubs. But I know a lot of them don’t have websites or Facebook pages so you can’t just post the secretary’s personal details on a public forum or website.

As for the dwindling numbers in affiliated clubs it has absolutely nothing to do with a list not being on here.I fish in two affiliated clubs and have done for the last 20 years and been in and around the club match scene as a kid.The decline is down to a few things.Firstly a lot of the Labour, social or working mens clubs don’t exist anymore and have declined rapidly over the last 20 years. These were places where people would meet up and join fishing clubs.Another is there simply isn’t any younger anglers coming through any more. The ones that do don’t want to match fish they want to sit in the bivvies and go down the specimen side of fishing.

Although big river matches are coming back a bit now they aren’t at local club level.I bet the average age of most of the people in the affiliated clubs is 60+

Re: The Latest News = May Upper Severn Report & Photos of the Strimming at Aberbechan

Some good ideas that would benefit other members as said above. But you are still relying on other members to contribute. We already have the ‘ What you have caught ‘ section and how many people ever bother to write any reports on there?Again with the BAA making members aware of issues is put in the news section on the website. If you look back in the news there has been plenty of examples of this. and to suggest the BAA would purposely withhold information that would restrict access to a fishery is ridiculous.

So like I said they are good idea’s but I just think we already have the facilities in place to carry them out but the lack of participation from members is where it’s not working.Another way to reach more people is to post it on the Facebook page.As you may have noticed it has become a lot more active in recent weeks with catch reports and members are being encouraged to send stuff to put on there.
