Re: The future of the BAA Mr Care, I'm not too sure how much you know about organizing club matches through the BAA as each affiliated club receives 5 free matches per year and not 4 as you quoted, and they do not have to be all on rivers. Regarding the middle sections not being booked for matches on the last Saturday of the season, I can only guess that the Severn at that time of year is unpredictable with the variation in levels and quite often have to switch matches to canal. Clubs tend to go to steadier stretches like Stourport because they can get more enjoyment out of catching double figures of roach, dace and perch instead of sitting for one bite after chucking 6 ounces of lead out. And just one important point is that anglers have to consider their own and others safety on the middle Severn at this time of year due to the steep and muddy banks, so there are a couple of reasons why there are few matches on the middle Severn in winter. Re: The future of the BAA In reply to Ken and in particular John Care, clubs are much smaller now and tend to plan their match calendars starting in late February and ending around late November. I think you'll find the majority of clubs have ageing members with very few youngsters, and this is solely down to commercial fisheries having easy access, very little walking and relatively easy sport to be had. I am in two clubs in the Black Country and each club has four river matches out of twelve in the match calendar. To Mr Care, BAA bailiffs do a terrific job, it is a voluntary exercise, and lots of them still hold a full time job, and to say they do not know the association rules is nonsense ( Why don't you become a bailiff ? ) Club matches on rivers are a thing of the past ? maybe not so many, but just because the result doesn't appear on the BAA website doesn't mean they do not take place. So to conclude Mr Care, if you are not satisfied or are unhappy with the way things are run at the BAA, there is an empty seat waiting for you on the BAA Committee to put your ideas across, just give John Williams a call. Cradley Heath Labour AC match at Kinver 4/12/16 Last club match of year fished on the Staffs/Worcs canal at Kinver, with the canal completely frozen over, every angler had to break ice in order to fish the match. 1st Brian Smith 7 - 11 - 0 ( Peg 2, Brian pole fished bread punch down the track to catch all roach and clinch the clubs averages title for the second year running ) 2nd Barry Robson 3 - 10 - 0 ( Peg 3, Barry caught mainly perch to pole fished worm and pinkie ) 3rd Paul Skidmore 3 - 9 - 0 ( Peg 13, Paul pole fished bread punch to catch all roach ) 4th Simon West 3 - 4 - 0 ( Peg 1, Simon caught all roach to pole fished bread punch ) 5th Martyn Yarsley 2 - 9 - 0 ( Peg14, Martyn caught all roach to pole fished bread punch ) Posted on December 04, 2016 at 7:37 PM
Halesowen RBL match at Ripple 20/11/16 After torrential overnight rain the match proved very hard on a rapidly rising river. 1st John Babbington 4 - 0 - 0 ( 2 skimmers and a roach on groundbait feeder with worm on the hook fished down the edge ) 2nd Garry Mason 2 - 15 - 0 ( 1 bream and a daddy ruffe ) Joint 3rd Martyn Knight and Mark Traves both with 0 - 2 - 0 9 dry nets, I told you it fished hard !!
