Ruts in fields!

Absolutely fantastic to see that our BAA are getting to grips with the problem of rutted fields.

I brought this into focus with my earlier post ''4x4 Wrecking Machines'', way back in February!

This is a great way to show the membership that access to waters is going to be made as easy and safe as possible.

Who in their right minds wants to drive through deep rutted mud, with a high percentage chance of getting stuck?

I certainly don't, all I want is a pleasent days fishing, not a vehecle rescue excercise.

Please keep up the good work!

Mythe pool track.

We went to Mythe Pool yesterday (11/05/16), fishing was slow but had a a few fish between us, bream to 5lbs and tench to 4lbs 10oz.
With all this wet weather we are having, if it continues, especially with several contests coming up, the track will become impassable to ordinary cars!
It is nice to see that the BAA are doing something about it by laying down some hardcore in some places, but a lot more needs doing, even if it costs a few bob.
In my humble opinion the hardcore would be better utilised if it is only placed where the vehicle wheels actually run.
It would go a lot further and really it is just wasted if it is put where the wheels never run ie; the middle three feet or so.
Just trying to be helpful!

Re: BAA home page today 30th. Report of dead fish at Coppice

Canals and none comercial pools have been tough this winter, just too much cold rain!
It should improve if we get some longer dry periods.

Re: 4x4 wrecking machines!!

Seems little point in spending money filling these ruts with hard core only for it to end up in the river when they flood. Couldn't the BAA get the farmers to run them over during the closed season with something to help flatten or level bad areas if they have such equipment. Just a thought.

I cannot see any problem whereby decent sized rubble would end up in the river!
This may be true on rivers and streams where flash floods occur, but not with the type of floods our waters experience.

There is another concern apart from use by vehicles and this is human access.
The BAA may say that members use these waters ''at their own risk'' , but this may not be the case unless they have taken reasonable efforts to reduce that known said risk.
These fields tend to have access by other parties such as walkers, dog walkers, farm workers etc and when very deep ruts grass over there is the danger of stepping into them and a high risk of breaking a leg.
It is just plain common sense and good management to remove this obvious risk, to any person lawfully using these fields.

4x4 wrecking machines!!

Todays' ever popular 4x4s are causing massive damage to the fields where we can drive to the pegs.
Wasperton and Birds Meadow are prime examples!
Because 4x4s are so good over rough ground, they are creating deep ruts, which, if a normal cars' wheels went into them, they would bottom-out and probably need a tractor to rescue them.
This may happen even if the ground is dry.
Where any route across a field can be taken, it is not too bad, but where a certain route has to be followed, 4x4s are creating big problems.
The one and only time I visited Birds Meadow, there were ruts up to 20 inches deep, I have not been back!
I feel that the BAA will have to ''bite the bullet'' and dig deep and purchase many tons of hardcore to rectify this problem - a big and costly job!
If they don't then the massive plus point of being able to drive to a peg will only be available to the owners of the ground wrecking 4x4s!
