Re: coppice

GUR... Went last Thursday [18th] I don't specifically fish for the carp these days, though I have had god knows how many out of there over the last few years, but had one rod out for carp or whatever swims past, and one float rod to keep me awake. Fished the car park bank and had dozens of small perch, which was quite unusual, to the point where they were a pest, and a few small roach. Three nice perch came early on, the best probably near 2lb and a decent skimmer but after that all tiddlers. I can't quite explain it but I feel it has changed there, different atmosphere and the catch has changed so I don't go so often these days.

Just to change the subject, a bloke and his mates came about 4 o'clock and he never stopped yakking until I left about 7 o'clock, effing this and that three times every sentence, a right loud mouth and pain in the arse. Have a chat with your mates but have a bit of respect for anyone else, tone it down a bit, some of us go for a peaceful day not an ear bashing. Perhaps that's why I prefer the rivers. That's that off my chest smiling .

PS only caught on the float rod.

Re: A LITTLE TIP.

Cheers Belsh. May be useful one day if you have to re-rig on the bank and you have run out of new ones.

A LITTLE TIP.

A USEFUL TIP... although they are cheap to buy, if you are cutting line off and want to re-use the Drennan type float/grippa stops that may be attached, just tie your line to the loop they came off, a single knot will do, and slide them back onto the loop. Quick and easy to do.

Re: Stubbs pool

It used to be a favourite venue of mine, loads of carp with some going into the twenties but after it was flooded when the Avon went over its banks a few years ago it was never the same.

Being the eternal optimist I fished it two or three times after that with just a couple of tiny perch caught and only saw one or two carp cruising when there used to be dozens, and it was quite weedy in parts. I believe a lot of very good fish were lost because of the floods. Such a shame as it was a good venue and I had it to myself some days, plus the option of the river very close. I haven't been for about 3 or 4 years so it may have improved. Never see much comment on it on these forums.

Re: Quieter Avon stretch

There's Marlcliffe, turn right at the sharp bend in village and follow your nose down track to the river. Easy parking. For barbel I think most blokes go downstream towards the weir, though not many pegs that way I don't think. I have had barbel from the pegs right next to the car park but usually go upstream a bit towards Bidford.

In general I fish for whatever swims past and don't target a particular species as such, and always weekdays so it is quieter. Parks Farm on the Evesham by-pass is another haunt, you do have some traffic noise depending how close to the bridge over the river you are but have the place to myself most times. Park next to river but not necessarily by your peg. BAA sign on access gate downstream side of the bridge.

Wood Norton, between Evesham and Fladbury, pretty deep here but easy parking and a short walk to the river, there is a BAA sign but the entrance is a bit concealed and easy to fly past., I usually miss it first time. Been the only one there in the past. A couple more access points between here and Fladbury but not sure what it's like, again, blink and you missed them.

Fladbury....have been twice this week, downstream of the bridge, plenty of pegs and only 3 or 4 more blokes there so not busy, virtually park behind your peg. Mainly small perch but a tench a whisker short of 4lb 8oz and a similar size bream. Quite a few boats the one day I must admit, not that it's a problem. Bidford RB was mentioned in another post , quite right it is a reasonable walk, especially if you carry loads of gear, but have had this place to myself as well .
