The Closed Season

So - Here we are again. It's the "Glorious 16th". And guess what? The river Severn is 4 feet up and rising and there's more rain on the way.
After a three month lay-off, when the river looked in perfect condition, being used by walkers, canoeists, boaters, etc. We are told that wildlife and vegetation need this time to recuperate. What a load of bullish*t.
This happens year after year and anglers are getting despondent.
Oh well, I suppose I shall have to wait until the river returns to it's normal level before I can venture out. Perhaps I'll be lucky this year and possibly be able to fish the river 4 times instead of 3 - Weather permitting.
So now...It's time for progress. It's time for change. It's time to ABOLISH THE CLOSED SEASON!
Nuff said.

river avon, wasperton

Looking at fishing either wasperton or the wye stretch on the 16th. Any ideas which venue would be the best choice?

Re: Zander quest

Your best bet would be to have a look at the Lure Anglers Canal Club water - we have stretches of the Grand Union through knowle and then from Warwick all the way to and through Leamington...stuffed with zander and nice perch (very few pike).

Fish a soft plastic on a light (max 5g jig head) slow, slower than you think is possible and you will find zander. My preference is small shads or creature baits.

Good Luck

Re: It's A Fishing Thing

Mick, read it with interest, I guess it is the book that all of us who fish regularly with the same bunch of guys over a long period of time have always wanted to write but never thought we could. It is one that we can all relate to both in fishing terms and friends, enjoyed it. Regards Nick
