Cotheridge - is there a way there?

Seems a pity to have such a superb stretch languishing so close to Worcester. The BAA access is obviously a no go. Has anyone tried the footpath from Broadwas - it looks OK (about 1km), but is there any parking in the village? Similarly, the footpath to the river from the sharp bend just after Cotheridge (ie: just before the old BAA access) is even shorter but has anyone found any parking nearby? Thanks

I have crossed the river a couple of times from the right bank (Leigh & Ox Bow Lake). If you look on the Leigh map it`s where the lake is shown as joining the river. From the Cotheridge car park it` s downstream at the end of the straight high bank where the river turns left. The deep side switches from left to right and by wading diagonally you could cross. This is quite a few years back and the river may have altered.

Not sure when it was posted but if you look for Cotheridge in the where to fish section it appears to be closed at the moment due to fly tipping.

It's not fly tipping. Someone, in a a kind of medieval way, has settled on the land, sealed off the access road and I think lives there claiming some kind of squatter's rights. Anyone know any different?

I don't mind the walk. I am just vary wary of annoying anyone by parking in the wrong places. Any info on parking anywhere near the footpaths?

Andy the fishery is still shut for this reason, there’s nowhere to park. But hopefully something will be sorted out soon and it can be reopened.

Re: Cotheridge - is there a way there?

How many years has access been a problem? Quite a few that's for sure, some years ago I was horrified to see that downstream of the car park someone had dumped a tipper load of household waste into the River and some strewn over the bank and into trees. The only possible access was through the field that was the one with the cabin in. In the end the EA got it sorted but it took me some time to get that done, no one else were a bit concerned.
It's a shame because we have had some fantastic times down there, I hope it get's sorted sooner rather than having to wait another 10 years or so.

Just out of interest, what ideas do you have that could solve this issue any quicker? Also What has taken 10 years? At a guess I’d say it’s been ongoing roughly 2 years without checking. The BAA are doing everything they can to get access restored and the fishery reopened as soon as possible.

If the BAA have right and lawful access to the fishery it doesn't need me to spell it out...does it? I really am not sure how long it's been it might be 10 years it might be less, but either way we cannot access Cotheridge, which is a shame.

I’m sure if you write the friendly traveller man a nice letter asking him to move he will oblige lol.Do you not think the BAA have already gone down the legal route? It’s made more difficult because despite blocking our access he’s not actually on our land.As said beforehand, everything has been done in an attempt to move him and hopefully access will be restored soon.

Re: Cotheridge - is there a way there?

I posted on this issue last year, which I think is the first year we lost parking there. When I last contacted John Williams about it he reported that the land owner was seriously ill with cancer and so understandably had other things on his mind than our fishing access.
I too have fond memories of the place but without taking the law into our hands - and I'm not advocating that - especially considering the size of their dogs - I don't see there is anything that will change anytime soon.
Probably the best plan would be to find an alternative route down at the bend in the road but maybe it is the same farmer. So back to the same issue.

Is there any mileage in asking for an access share with Docklow? BAA could offer fishing at Cotheridge in return for use of their access road and car park?
