Just a bit of info for those about to fish there.
I went today and fished 2 pegs below the bridge. There was a little bit on it (3 or 4 inches maybe)
and there was a nice bit of pace as well.
Stick float in about 6 foot of water, feeding maggots and pestered by baby bleak. I'd been loose feeding hemp and tares, so gave the tares a try. A bit slow at first, but after a little while the roach started to feed. Unfortunately after a couple of hours it completely died.
I had been feeding little and often, so I tried upping things, but all to no avail. Still plenty of bleak on the maggot though.
I just thought I would let anybody fishing it in the next day or so that might want to know what to expect - knowing fishing though, it will probably fish completely different.
Good luck to one and all.

I fished it Tuesday evening until dark Peachy, but for barbel. Very, very slow. An 8lb pike on a pellet, and a skimmer, that was it. That's 3 barbel blanks for me there now, but i managed a half decent one above the bridge about 10 days ago.

Hi Peachy & Johnny
Good to read your feedback, well everyone’s feedback from their fishing trips is hugely helpful.

We have had 10 Waters booked for Matches between 26th June and 7th July and not one posting in the Match Fishing Forum to say how the waters fished, which is disappointing.

On the plus side there have been some super photos featured on the Fish of the Week in the Home Page thanks to our fellow d’anglers for posting those.

Keep on Fishing

Re: Fladbury below bridge

I regularly fish the Avon at Wasperton and Barford, Very often when the swim has warmed up and fish are feeding there will be a sudden lack of bites, The usual reason is that at least one pike has moved into the feed area to follow the fish. There are 2 choices when this happens.
The first is to stop feeding for a while so that the fish move away and so do the pike, When this has happened I feed a different line to start fish feeding again,
The other option is to move to a new swim which is why I take minimal tackle to this type of venue so that it is not too much trouble.
On a recent Barford match one angler had 2 2lb bream snatched at the net and several people were bothered by pike as the Avon seems to be full of them at present.

The Avon is solid with pike has been for a number of year, Fladbury especially. I fished pershore rb last year and had two big doubles one either side of my keep net. People walking along the bank could see them.

Re: Fladbury below bridge

Got wiped out by Pike Boats and paddle boarders at Bidford last night, getting a few Chub and bites then nothing.
Have fished Fladbury a couple of times and had some cracking Pike on retrieved meat, now if I had intended that???
Bidford is so over grown, plus to make it more interesting the farmer has electrified all the 'pegs' crying

Re: Fladbury below bridge

OLC - which side of Bidford was the problem please?
I had it in mind to fish the right bank. The one with the weir, and if I remember correctly, many years ago the end downstream peg used to produce bags of barbel and chub.
However if this side of Bidford is completely overgrown, I think I'll give it a miss. Especially if the farmer has electrified the pegs (whatever that means).
If it's the left bank I would be amazed if the pegs were electrified, as surely the bankside along that stretch is common right of way. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it has been used as a pathway for at least 45 years that I know of.
Anyway. as it seems Bidford is a no go, I think I might give Evesham (Common Road) a try. Providing this old brain of mine can figure out how to open the gate - lol.
Any info on Common Road access would be appreciated by anyone.

Re: Fladbury below bridge

Peachy..the side at Bidford that has an electric fence (sheep) is the right side downstream, however you can manage to hurdle the things if you are careful, being mindful of the crown jewels of course.

So that is the side where the car park on the track is and walk down to the river.

There are just a couple of pegs you can access, but the style to the downstream section is very overgrown, I didn't attempt it, but possibly doable with a well aimed bank stick.

Plenty of fish showing with lots of fry in the margins, but loads of pike too, Chub everywhere.

Re: Fladbury below bridge

I've not been to the Bidford RB stretch in years, often been tempted to go again. I remember in the mid 80's when the BAA first acquired it, and it was a magnificent bit of river then. The last peg, as Peachy says, was the flier. Don't fish the general area really, I never really got along with Barton upstream, and the presence of the Gypsy camp at Cleeve puts me off going anywhere around there.

Re: Fladbury below bridge

You would not recognize the place, (Bidford R/B).
I walked down the meadow last year and found that the shingle beach (the flier) was no longer there.
I would say it had been washed away by the big floods.
Of course another flood could could drop a load of shingle back in the same place.
Looked like the island was no longer fished.
I fished the peg next to the top fence and had a lot of small fish on float fished tare.
Had several chub and one suspected barbel on, but is was so weedy I never got a single one to the net.
