Hi Guys
Last Autumn I spent a few days looking for fishable pegs on the Teme without much luck. It's a real shame that this superb River is mostly inaccessible.
Is there anyone out there that knows where I can fish the BAA stretches without taking the contents of my garden shed.
Somewhere I heard that the pegs at Lindridge at been sorted, is that correct.

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Hi Frank
Like you have mentioned in your message finding fishable pegs on the Teme is difficult. When I last went there it was a nightmare unless you are armed with scythe and secateurs, which I now carry in my tackle bag. I know that you and your club have had issues in the past with waters that you have booked for contests being overgrown when you got there!

The good thing is the Fisheries Team are making inroads

If you go to the BAA Web page and click on Latest News, when the page opens on the RH side is a column in which there is a heading
Archives
Click on January when it opens click on
BAA Fisheries Team Diary 2022
When it opens you will see below December 2021
Eastham Bridge on the Teme
By scrolling down the article it has photos taken by the Fisheries Team at a number of our venues where work has been undertaken.
The decline of Clubs fishing our waters has meant that a lot of riverside reverts to nature pdq as there are fewer anglers knocking back the growth on a weekly basis.

The only thing that I can suggest is that our members contact the HQ with problems with our waters and hope that the Fisheries Team can then prioritise those fisheries that will make them MORE Accessible to the greatest number of potential anglers.

By the way Lindridge was a favourite for me and my late father back in the 60s - 70s - 80s and last year I caught my first Grayling there.

Keep on Fishing

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Hi Frank

I have fished the Teme a few times over the winter months, mostly for decent chub and the occasional barbel with meat on light rolling leger tackle.

Sadly the work done at Eastham Bridge was to the Car Park only so the pegs themselves are still hard to get into (take a rope as the banks are steep and slippery even when stepped).
The next car park down stream (Lindridge lay by) is your best bet for handier to get into pegs, it all depends on what you intend to fish for and the method employed as to whether any will suit you expectations as the undercurrents and varying depths here play tricks on you when loose feeding.

Be aware that there is sometimes difficulty with the padlock there (I was locked out of it yesterday morning, however by late afternoon someone had kindly lubricated it and the tumblers were rolling freely again), anyway I parked up on the car park down stream instead, the one down the track in the village. Knowing that lumbering upstream would be a waste of my time (the wrong flow for my methods) I headed downstream where I'd never fished before. I dropped into the first peg with access to a back swim and caught a couple of rod bending chub @3lb plus. There were only two or three more pegs though within easy walking distance as I found when I went for a walk further down stream later in the day.

The top three pegs furthest upstream from the car park at Stanford Bridge are also easy to get down to. Mostly chub in these deeper steady flowing glides. May suit you?
Hope this helps. Don't give up, There are big fish in that little river.

Keep on fishing no matter what the weather chucks at you.

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

I fished Eardiston recently and I cut my own steps in and had a dog spike and rope. The Teme has always been like this and any steps cut into the soft clay banks are washed away as soon as the river is up.It’s always been the same,a small fold up shovel, rope and a machete is hardly the contents of your shed and has always been essential kit when fishing on most of the Teme.It is impossible to get a pg in on parts where the bank is undercut and a sheer drop but that’s just the nature of this river. To suggest all the water we have on it is “mostly inaccessible” is a slight exaggeration do you not think? The car park at Eastham was a priority for a number of reasons and now work has begun on opening more pegs out not only there but on all the stretches. You never know the fisheries team might keep everyone happy one of these days, wishful thinking ey?

I believe for the most part members appreciate the work done by the fisheries team, but with the many miles of bankside to control there are going to be issues for someone's access. Frank's comment about the contents of his shed was humorous and for those of us that have a sense of humour would not feel offended.

And just like clockwork he’s there! The ever reliable and predictable Neil. One sniff of a comment by me and he’s on it like a shot.Isn’t it strange how different you were when we met at Severn Stoke? And you didn’t have your keyboard to hide behind?Just out of interest do you even fish the Teme?

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Hi again

Lets get back to the subject of the Team's activities on the Teme please.

Sod's Law that some of the safest and most attractive portions of the Teme for us anglers are slap bang between the car parks re: Eastham Bridge/Lindridge/Erdiston Mill section.

Even if the Team slaved away making these pegs accessible for us in the near future, there is nothing that they can do to reduce the 1/2 mile walk involved to get to them. Too far for the masses so the Team would be wasting there resources only to satisfy the few.

DIY, as the other Stew says, looks the only real option for these swims.

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

There’s pegs on the car park at Eastham that are being done to suit the less mobile members and also work has started cutting more pegs from the car park up towards the bridge where they have started to open it up.As I said there are plans in place to cut more pegs in all over the Teme but there are also another 200 odd miles of river to look after too so despite even having the contractors assist on the bigger jobs it’s not going to happen overnight.Just bear with them,we are moving in the right direction and anyone who has been out and visited a few different venues will see the massive difference in the last 7-8 months.

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

No worries Stew, I'm on your side here.

Frank, if you are looking to book Teme water for a contest as Reg suggested you might be above, your best bet would be Bransford, if its bookable that is.
The likes of Stamford Bridge & Lindridge have lost so many pegs since the 90s because of devastating floods changing the landscape (and flow direction) its impossible for the BAA Team to undo the damage done, but Bransford has been little affected from what I can see and well maintained last year too with fishable pegs every 30 or 40 yards or so, plus a dirty great lay by to park in.

Hope this helps.

By the way, whoever opened up new swims upstream from the Lindridge Lay By car park section last year, thank you and thank you again to the TEAM for sorting out the foot bridges downstream from the Lindridge village car park. I'll bet you sweat tears removing that huge fallen tree that fell on top the the nearest bridge to the car park..

Every little helps and it doesn't go unnoticed.

Cheers
Stew :0)

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Why the aggressive stance Stew ? It was a light hearted comment 're Frank, and you then go on about Severn Stoke and seemingly wanting to settle your differences with me, I can't say anything that you deem it a threat to you...grow up!

Any question on here regarding any subject be it access to fisheries, Otter fencing, night fishing, goes the same way, you its all my fault, I can go away but the problems won't unless they are dealt with.

Calling me a keyboard warrior is poor, and not referring to me as Onelastcast is obviously meant to an attempt to troll, the very thing you accuse me of.

FWIW I do care genuinely about the BAA and the issues we face, I have tried to help with fencing and getting the ball rolling with quotes and contact details, all sent to HQ, but no feedback at all.

Instead of taking members views as being ungrateful and a personal threat, can I suggest they are valued, and as I have said previously good organisations welcome all feedback from its customers.

Re: BAA Fishable Pegs on the Teme

Coming from the perspective of "not really knowing how things used to be" as I only joined the BAA last year and had previously only fished the Teme once (at Tenbury about 30 years ago) I have really enjoyed the different challenges the Teme has given me compared to my usual Severn/Stour/Avon etc in the last few months or so.

I've found a number of fishable pegs both for float and feeder on the Eardiston/Lindridge sections -admittedly there isn't loads of them and you have to walk about a bit to find them but there seems enough for the amount that fish it (certainly in the winter).

I've had the joy of my first ever grayling and have now caught them on every trip so far (upto just over a pound) a bonus trout and some really good chub when I've switched from maggots to meat - Hopefully I'll catch my first Teme barbel for 30 years at some point (I had a few on that one session in 1990 ish !!) but up to now I've tended to choose the Teme when the temp is down as the grayling seem to oblige in cold conditions when other fish are not so keen to feed.

It isn't the most accessible of rivers but having fished the Worcs Stour a lot over the last few years I've got used to "Jungle fishing" - So personally I love the wildness of it.
