Hello Fellow D’anglers,
Only a month away now from the rivers being open again!
I would suggest that you
Make sure you look at the “Booked Waters and Fisheries Workplan” as a lot of “Bankside strimming” work is scheduled during June.
BUT be prepared
Take your bankstick, so that you can knock back the Vegetation yourself if you need to!

Keep on Fishing…

well said Reg ... there's nothing i like better than running a stick float down the Avon... dont get me wrong mate , as you know i fish all types of matches,, winter leagues.. opens.. silver fish.knock ups .. you name it .. and really enjoy them all..But my true love is back to roots of pleasure fishing on rivers.. wife behind me making sandwiches , 2 or ??? beers in a cool box ,, and chatting to anyone who cares to lend an ear... and no pleasure to catch all the fish... and especially this year. when i get to bump into all the DAnglers again.

As you say mate
Keep on fishing

Thanks for the reply Bin,
Firstly wishing you and your team the best of luck in the European Competition that you are appearing in for England, and “may all of your nets be wet”

I bet there are quite a number of us now re-spooling our reels, tying your own hook lengths, stocking up on shots and other bits of tackle?

As for Baldyman, I am looking forward to seeing his photo with a 7lb + Bream caught from the Avon at Wasperton, here’s hoping for you BM.

As for the rest of us well what can I say

Keep on Fishing…

Hi Reg.

As you've requested Reg, with such good canal & pool sport to be had of late, I've never stopped fishing. I've needed my wellies and a pair of gardening gloves to create a comfortable peg on the Staff/Worcs recently though as the nettles and cow parsley are now several feet high, its all good cover and a refreshing change from the baroness of winter and I'm seeing plenty of other anglers about too.

I'm looking forward to a session on the little R. Stour at Stourton again. Looks like strimming work will start on the 19th June though, but I can wait. The 16th isn't all that important to me these days as all the best sections of the R. Severn for example will be jam packed as usual.

The grass is still green enough where I'm fishing now, so slowly, slowly, I will catch my first barbel later in the season when June 16th madness is oversmiling

Hello stew1955,
Glad to hear that you have kept on fishing, and why not, we have some cracking waters to wet our lines in.

The way you described the parting of the bankside vegetation to make a pitch for yourself just reminded me of the Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing, those glorious pictorial fishing books!
My Dad bought those for me back in the late 1950’s or early 60’s, they were a riveting read, and I still have a copy that is very well thumbed.

Looking forward to our b.a.a d’anglers contests this year and catching anything or nothing, as it will be a nice chance for a catch up.

In the meantime just

Keep on Fishing…

Re: June 16 - Only a Month to wait before the Rivers are open again

Hello Reg,as you say, only four weeks to go. My gear is ready, bait bought or prepared and frozen for my (probably impossible) quest for an 8lb Bream. I've been walking the river 3 or 4 times a week sussing out pegs that I feel may produce the fish I am after. Time will tell.
Plenty of bankside cover at Wasperton at the moment, fortunately the BAA don't go overboard when clearing access to the pegs. Unlike the neighbouring club, downstream, who have taken it upon themselves to strim and cut down every bit of bankside, natural cover for 15 feet either side of their newly installed(far too small, potential trip hazard)platforms. Plans are afoot to also remove/severely cut back/rake out vegetation in the river in front of the platforms. To make it more attractive to match anglers I am told.
Anyway,enough of that.
Tight lines all, have fun, stay safe when the rivers open.

Bottom end of wasperton has been decimated hasn’t it … completely ruined by obsessive unnecessary work parties on that club .

They don't seem to grasp that not everyone is a match angler who wants manicured banks. A lot of river anglers, myself included, like to part the undergrowth just enough to poke a rod through and sit unseen by fish and wildlife. Sadly, that can't happen anymore on the LAA stretch at Wasperton.
They tell me that the work they do(cutting down, burning and strimming anything and everything)is conservation work. Not according to the dictionary defenition I have.

The rivers are open now if you have a fly rod.
It really is about time that they were open to coarse angling year round, though.
The poachers don't stop to let the ducks nest.
