Unfortunately I have to go on a dialysis machine for 19 hours a day so I tend to watch quite a few fishing videos on YouTube.ive watched several on the Trent and was wondering if baa could acquire a stretch or two on what looks a fabulous river.

Re: River Trent .

They do have one stretch at Handsacre ...however not the best.....I’ve found it a bit all or nothing...I personally have had some great days there , were I’ve just luckily landed on a frenzy of roach and weighing in a respectable 28lb in a match ....on saying that I’ve also blanked on the same peg....but your right it a great river and the association should have a bit more to have a go at ...

Hi Rob,
Sorry to learn that you are having dialysis for so many hours a day, say strong my fishing friend.

As per your mention of the River Trent well I happen to have a copy of the BAA Waters Guide from the 1970’s and I have attached a photo of the pages from it with the Association Waters on the Trent at that time!

The stretch at Handsacre can be very hit and miss in the last 3 times ive fished it ive only caught 3 fish on one visit and blanked the other two. The Trent around Burton is an amazing river they fished this years Riverfest final on the Trent. Be great if the BAA did get a stretch of the middle Trent but I just don't think they come up for sale that often. At least the Avon has fished well this season.

The BAA did have great section at Branston just off the A38 , What happen to it ? It was great for dace and chub , plus the odd decent roach.

With the Trent's reputation, any stretch the BAA did get that had any form would be hammered, in a similar way to the Wye stretch. It's a lot closer to Birmingham than the Wye stretch too, so the association would have to employ a ticketing system there I suspect, like they did with Stacklands. I'm pretty sure any stretch that was available would be quickly swept up by a syndicate anyway, offering big money etc. There are Upper Trent options available of course, BMAA, Derby Railway etc, but they're more expensive than the £40 BAA option.

I remember many years ago, probably in the early 90s I was a member of the DAA which went bump and now is derby railway. That stretch of the Trent was fantastic fishing but as all we all know river fishing has gone downhill everywhere.Maybe instead of looking elsewhere for stretches on other waters. We should be looking after what we have already.

Re: River Trent .

John what makes you think it would get hammered pal? Just the fact that the fishing can be so good? People want easy access these days and short walks, I suppose it would just depend on the stretch of water.

Is Stacklands still a ticketing system? I dont see much about how well it fishes on here never fished it myself.

Branchie I agree we should be looking after and making the venues we have better,
but as for rivers going downhill I cant agree with that the Avon has fished better this year than I have known in a long time from a pleasure fishing prospective.

You are so right in what you have said about putting in some work on what we already have.

I was on the Teme last week Monday at Lindridge and then on Sunday at Eardiston, when it was up about two foot from Monday due to the heavy rain, and to say the least pegs are very few and far between all the way down those venues.

A lot of trees need cutting back/down and then the banking needs cutting out to create pegs

I also asked about changing stiles for kissing gates but it would appear costs might be prohibitive as well as issues with the landowners wanting stiles changed?

Keep on Fishing

I think anywhere different, and with good potential would be heavily fished Dave. The Wye is well known for multiple barbel catches, 9 and 10 fish a session, that sort of thing. It's the same with the Lower Severn where I fish, news of a big fish comes out, and the venues are packed for a while with anglers wanting a piece of the action, which is understandable. Agree about the Avon, it's been OK this season, and is a change venue from the Severn, which has been woeful compared to last season. A lot of the venues the association are actually ok, even the ones that are lightly fished have fishable swims, especially at this time of year, when the vegatation has started to die back.
