Re: Fish theft from canals

If you think returning a zander to a canal is a "serious and illegal act" Jeff, then your medication isn't working. Why are you continuing with this utter nonsense?

Oh dear Johnny boy going by your remarks about me . It appears I've really irked you in your response smiling to my posts

This is from some one who did not understand at the time all those months ago the meaning of the word staying local as laid down and agreed by the Angling Trust with the government .

You thought that taking a 40 minute drive down the M5 was staying local and the Angling Trust branded people like you as idiots . I irked you then and I've irked you now in your responce to my posts

So please don't lecture me . When you don't even know the meaning of the words staying local.
If you want to continue making this personal then feel free Because I treat people like you with the utter contempt they deserve wink

Re: Fish theft from canals

The issue is not if we agree with the law as it stands , That clearly states that is is illegal and against the law to return zander that have been caught and returned to the canal. Its is down to the authority's if they decide to prosecute or not to prosecute . I think we can all agree on that .

The issue here is, Can the BAA force a member to return any zander caught from a canal to return it alive and well ? With the threat of being expelled from the BAA if he is caught not doing so ?

I think you will find that as the law stands at the moment it is a criminal offence to force, bully , coerce or blackmail some one in to conducting them selves in a criminal act . The criminal offence in question here is Forcing some one to return zander alive to the canal ?

People may or may not know this , The BAA is run as a business and is run as a LTD and are subject to company rules , regulations and laws .

So for the BAA to actively tell and encourage its members to commit a serious and illegal act by telling them that all zander must be returned alive and well to the canal could find them selves in serious trouble in the future .

Re: Fish theft from canals

Lets get our facts right when it comes to removing zander from a canal . As the law stands at the moment a angler cannot not be arrested , charged or prosecuted for removing zander from a canal

You may or may not agree with it . That is the law as it stands at the moment

So where does that leave the BAA when there bye-law states , All zander must be returned alive when caught .

It would be help full for some clarification for some one from the BAA make a comment about any zander caught by a BAA member must be returned alive . When the law as it stands clearly states that it is illegal to return zander to the canal . To save any confusion we are talking about a canal and not rivers

Re: Cotheridge river teme

I fished the Teme many years ago for barbel . It was a well known river for barbel anglers.

When we had the floods in 2007 for long periods after , The river was never the same and it took a long time to recover to its former glory days .

Then the Otters started to appear and barbel anglers were up in arms because of the impact the otters were having on barbel numbers .

There appears to be some good news that barbel numbers seem to be up and making a return according to some of the posts on face book

Fish theft from canals

Interesting statement made by the Canal&River Trust

Its appears you can be arrested and charged if caught stealing fish from the canals according to the Canal&River Trust . The Canal& River Trust own the fish in the canals. The exception to that law is zander . You can not be arrested and charged for removing zander from the canal ?

The link below explains it all ?
