Re: Roach fishing - Staffs-Worcs Canal

Hi Stew

Kind of you to answer but you've not understood the question.
I've been catching good quality fish in the boat swim but that has only been when boat traffic, Sun Light & Wind conditions have allowed, however, no matter what the conditions I have never failed to get a series of bites along the near shelf when I've been fishing between Botterham and Wolverley with a west side tow path as dusk falls.
Would it be the opposite shelf that attracts the fish at that particular time of day between Kiddy & Stourport where the tow path is on the east side of the canal?smiling

Re: Roach fishing - Staffs-Worcs Canal

Late in the day but I'd like to add to this post by asking Yorkie (or anybody else) a question.
I always fish the Staffy ABOVE Kiddy where the tow path is on the West bank of the canal, however, at Kiddy Town Ctr and below the tow path is on the opposite side, the East bank, which is where Yorkie has some experience.
I am continuing to have a bite a cast in the near margin above Kiddy as dusk approaches, despite the cold and relatively clear water, and I'm wondering if it is because the tow path side there is the first side of the canal to get the evening's shadows as the Sun drops down closer to the horizon even when the far side (Eatern bank) can still be in bright sunshine. The fish seem very confident hanging about under the tow path at this time of day even if the tow path is still busy. If this is the reason then it should be that the West Bank and far margin would be where the fish gather at dusk below Kiddy (or anywhere on the BW Canal for example).
Can anybody who regularly fishes from a tow path on the East Bank of any canal at this time of year throw any light on my theory, in other words, is it the far or near margin where you get the most bites at dusk?smiling

Re: Have all gate codes been changed?

To add to Stew's reference to the little line that the numbers have to be aligned to, its usually the top row on the BAA's padlocks that have to be aligned, not the middle row like on a suit case. The little line along the top row is the key to entry. That catches a lot of us out at times smiling

I rarely meet anyone else fishing the SW canal as well which is why I call myself "The Lone D'Angler".smiling

Re: New lake

Hi Lads

It goes without saying that the lake will have been restocked with extra Gold Fish this week, free gratis from the upstream Sewage Treatment Works with the EA's blessing.
Burst river banks, high winds and the thought of all that extra untreated sewage being dumped upstream of my favourite Danery peg, so far, has put me off the idea of a day Barbel & Chub fishing by the Severn this winter.
I'm lucky that I live near to some cleaner canal venues for my pleasure fishing instead.
Some of you aren't that lucky and I do feel for you.smiling
