Re: Severn Roach

I know what you mean David :o)

This thing is a boyhood dream i'm following. No idea where it'll take me or how long. But I really must have a go.

Want a 2lb'er from the Severn, proper fishing that. There are reports all over the place of big roach being caught, i'm trying to improve my chances by finding 'hotspots' or at least one if I can !

There are easier ways i'm sure but finding them myself is the key, It's half the fun and more than that satisfaction wise.

I'm sure I could pay someone to show me but that would be completely hollow. Might as well put one in a bath for me.

I'm not completely taking the isolated route, i'm happy to accept help, crikey I am. I ask anglers on the bank, usually fishing for other species or anything, what they've caught and take note, I really do.

I still dream about it and one day, if it comes it will be magical, though I suspect easy at the time of capture because catching fish is pretty easy when it happens. That's why the journey is half the fun or more.

I've only been at it since the beginning of July. Probably a dozen trips out. So far had fish of 1.10 x 2, 1.11 & 1.13 encouragingly not all from the same swim or venue. They seem widespread now. Plus nets of multiple fish between 12oz and a pound or so, (quite a few over a pound).

I've gone and nailed my colours to the mast. Told the world. Never set out for a particular fish/species before, just a club match angler and pleasure angler fishing for whatever.

Trouble is we all know dreams don't always come true, but then again they might. That's the mystery of it, the mystery of not knowing whats going to happen each time out, that I grew up with, that fishings all about, that i've rediscovered and really makes it for me.

Severn Roach

Hows this for a bag of Severn Roach from yesteryear.

Des reckons they're back. He's right.

Plenty along BAA waters, just have to find them.

Re: Fladbury road closure.

'Patience and Perseverance' ... so very true Mr Care.

Almost forgotten qualities nowadays but essential for a proper angler.

The more I think about it, the more there is to that.

I won't get a 2lb roach without them, that's for sure.

Luck far too unreliable, already tried that.

Re: arley

I've been fishing as light as .16 hooklength, (5.5lb WB Clarke line) roach fishing on a straight lead and picking up the odd barbel. Won't risk any lower even though i'm trying to avoid barbel.

Ok to get the barbel in as long as the flow isn't too great, not using too powerful a rod and you're careful. 8mm or often single 6mm pellet.

However, haven't hit a really big one yet !

Match anglers now fishing with a long tail of 4, or even 6 ft and lightish lines in clear conditions, as has been reported elsewhere on this site.
