My first year back on the rivers after forty years has been fantastic. I have loved every minute of every trip to the BAA waters. I carry my Dads last BAA membership card from 1984 (see photo) with me in my tackle box.
He taught me to fish on the river Wye during the sixties when i was about 8 years old. I cannot believe all that time has passed and i am now a pensioner like he was and still fishing. I don't know how many years i have left on the banks, but i am going to enjoy every trip i make.
Lets hope next year brings more fish to all our hooks.

Happy Christmas and New Year to all members and staff.

Re: Happy Christmas

To Stewpar, Haddon and Every Other BAA Member
Wishing You All a Merry as Christmas as we can get in these unusual times and let us all hope that the vaccine’s can come to our aid in 2021 so that we can all
Keep on Fishing and have Many Tight Lines on our Canals Pools and Rivers.

As mention was made by Stewpar and Haddon about their formative years spent fishing with their dads; as well as fishing with my dad I also went fishing with my Aunt, my dad’s youngest Sister.
In the Winter of 1962 (I was 9) my Aunt thought it would be good fun to fish like the Eskimo and cut a hole in the ice down at Salford Reservoir!

When we got there It has been the only time that I have ever witnessed birds dead and frozen to the branches of the trees, We did not get to fish as the ice was just too thick to break.

Thankfully They don’t make winters like that now.

Re: Happy Christmas

Thanks Hadden, and a belated Happy Christmas to you. Also, may I thank all the bailiffs, bank-workers, office staff and committee, for keeping us all fishing, and all the members who are so friendly to we pensioner members. I was taught fishing by my late father in a mucky oily canal back in 1961, when to catch anything, even a five inch perch, was an achievement, but it was sufficient to get me started. I'm still learning and my sentiment is "If only I knew then what I know now, what a difference that would have made"

Happy New Year !
