Re: Close season length It would seem that, and on the face of it, the close season, in main, is to protect spawning. This then begs the question; why is it that the majority of canals and stillwaters are open to fishing? Are all the fish eunuchs (lol) ? Leading on from this, I would ask why Scotland and Ireland do not have a close season? Maybe somebody with a better understanding could enlighten me, as I am completely at a loss as to understand the why and wherefore of it all. Posted on March 25, 2021 at 11:37 AM

Close season length Does anybody know how the length of the close season was determined? On the face of it, the length of time seems to be somewhat random. It's a couple of days over 3 months, the same with the number of weeks (13 plus 5 days) and an odd 93 days.. I know and can understand why we have close season, but what is the reasoning behind the seemingly odd length of time. Posted on March 22, 2021 at 10:09 AM
Fladbury access Went to Fladbury below the bridge today (Thursday). The track past the gate to the bend was fine on entry. However, whilst fishing, a number of tractors have really chewed up this stretch. It's quite a quagmire and was almost impassable upon exit. Just thought I would let people know if they intend going there, especially if it rains. P.S. the fishing was dire! Posted on October 15, 2020 at 5:36 PM

I agree with Staffie that it is actually 3 months 1 day - my original calculations were wrong. It's still a weird length of time though!
