Re: 1980 BAA Guide to Waters

We used to have some sections on the river Leam back around then. Upstream from Leamington if I remember. I've actually forgotten whereabouts they were. Does the 1980 book give any details?

I'd appreciate the info for old times sake.

Re: Float fishing the Severn

Hornet, that sounds like a great days fishing. Do you mind me asking what bait you were using?

I'm interested in whether it was maggot/caster or pellet. Roving I would normally use the first two but the roach do seem to have a taste for pellet, I'm just not sure how quick the response to pellet would be in a roving situation.

Feel free to tell me to mind my own business.

Re: One for the eel anglers

I've had a reasonable number of eels from the Severn but they tend to be about a pound or larger, none of the boot laces that were common before. I don't think that's down to bait size as I often use 6 or 8mm pellets.

I used to specifically fish for large eels during the old close season when you couldn't do anything else. Now you can fish still waters all year round I'd rather spend the time going after tench..

Re: Float fishing the Severn

I've spent a lot of time after the barbel on the lead so far this year but now is the time for hemp and tare for the roach. First trip last week wasn't great, shaking off the cobwebs I think.

Never got them on it if you know what I mean. It's always been a slow start bait for me, takes a couple of hours of steady feeding to get them going for it. I got roach on hemp but not really mad for it. and so the switch to tare for the better fish didn't happen.

I'm trying again next week in a different area. I need somewhere where the quality roach are close in to make the most of it.

This winter I want to concentrate on big chub. I'm surprised I haven't picked any up on pellet, most have been small fish. The big ones must be there.

Re: A little help?

Hampton Loade, Arley, Kinlet are all good Barbel area's. To be honest you can fish any of them on the right day and find fish.

At the moment the river level has dropped and that can make it hard to catch during the day, Put a couple of foot on the water and give it a bit of colour and it fishes better.

There's one thing for sure it will be different to what you are used to. Not much stalking goes on round here. Feeder and pellet at present doing the business for most anglers. You will need plenty of feeders as it's easy to lose them, sometimes 3 or 4 in a day. You also need different weight feeders to allow for water levels/current/swims.
