Re: Game Fishing for BAA

I am a reservoir fluff chucker at heart but have bought a small 4# wand and had a few dabbles and managed to catch a very small brownie on a nymph in the summer which was a first. I could do with going with others that know what they are doing on rivers.
In general it is good fun but usually involves being in the river with chest waders as the banks are not ideal for back casts.
Maybe we could encourage some sessions with some of the seasoned fly fishers to show others the ropes. I know they are in the BAA but don't often post on here.

Re: Cotheridge - is there a way there?

I posted on this issue last year, which I think is the first year we lost parking there. When I last contacted John Williams about it he reported that the land owner was seriously ill with cancer and so understandably had other things on his mind than our fishing access.
I too have fond memories of the place but without taking the law into our hands - and I'm not advocating that - especially considering the size of their dogs - I don't see there is anything that will change anytime soon.
Probably the best plan would be to find an alternative route down at the bend in the road but maybe it is the same farmer. So back to the same issue.

Re: Uckinghall carp Old style

Thanks - a pretty rare catch and so, in my opinion, more valued than the same size fish from Coppice. And no smashed up lips from idiots ripping hooks out.
But have to say the number of carp in the lake is way down on what it used to be before the 2007 flood - this is why I prefer stalking individual fish - I doubt there is more than 10 decent carp in the lake now. Those whacking out boilies don't seem to ever catch anything as far as I can tell, But is a pretty lake and often very quiet, which is the attraction for me. Has been discussed many times that the lake could do with more fish, but the BAA are reluctant due to the risk of them going into the river in the next big flood. I wonder if a fish retaining fence would help like at Mythe?

Re: Fly Fishing BAA Waters

Thanks for the tip. Will give that a try. I am waiting for the rivers to get back to normal levels at present. They have been charging through and pretty coloured of late.
