Re: Aberbechan - game fishing tipsWell no tips - but did the trek out to Aberbechan yesterday - nice river with some lovely pools. No salmon showing as expected with low water but practiced my spey casting - still room for improvement but getting there - did some dry fly fishing and had a few takes but no fish. So finished up fishing czech style nymphing, which produced two brownies - one was a reasonable size and fought really well on a light fly rod.

Aberbechan - game fishing tipsGoing to make the long trek to try this stretch of the Severn this weekend for the first time and looking for tips on fishing for salmon and brownies on the fly. The chance of salmon seems slim, considering the water levels, but what flies are favourite?

Twaite Shad caught at StacklandsWhilst salmon fly fishing on Monday - I think it is a Twaite shad - caught by accident. It fought pretty hard even on a heavy salmon rod - leaping clean out of the river. By all accounts this is a pretty big Twaite shad - the record is only about 2 lb something.

Re: Found - landing net at Holt Fleet 4th MayNo idea - I was fishing at Stacklands yesterday - and all we had was a shad (not sure if an Alis or Thwaite shad) caught on a fly - good size though.

Re: Found - landing net at Holt Fleet 4th MaySeeing as you have described it on here I may as well let you know that is the one and that is where I have left it. But better get there quick or there may be someone else might be claiming it.
