Re: Uckinghall Pool.

I hope the BAA don't mind me chipping in here ahead of an agreed approach but hopefully this will show something is happening behind the scenes. I am just a regular member who often fishes the pool - nothing to do with the working party - I think we have met at Uckinghall in the past - as it drives me made as well we probably discussed it then. I have been in discussion with the BAA on this very issue and being a design engineer with access to civil engineering colleagues, I have offered to help where I can. Currently we have not been able to get to the end of the pipe on the river side as when I last went round there it was below the water level. But it seems the non return flap is either not functioning or has come off completely - I agree there are masses of bleak in the pool now so suspect they came straight in from the pipe. Suffice to say I have put a suggested design on the table which I think will solve the issue (no fee involved by the way - I'm doing this voluntarily) however there are some concerns about it - affecting the adjacent land owner's property. Once the water drops to it's lowest level (probably in August) I hope to have another attempt at checking the pipe on the river side but my honest view is whatever is done needs to be on the pool outlet end so we have easy access - my suggestion involves a one-way flap built into the outlet in the pool. So if I can say something on behalf of the BAA - bear with us and hopefully we can do something to improve matters which won't affect the adjacent land owner and doesn't cost a king's ransom.

Re: Cotheridge - no access

Ok well I didn't know it was closed - maybe someone should take the BAA sign down from the gate. I parked elsewhere and hiked down to the river and had a nice 6 and half pound barbel on my first cast. Shame if it isn't opened up - I have never caught monsters there but it can usually produce some average sized barbel and good chub.

Cotheridge - no access

Having gone to fish at Cotheridge this evening I thought I'd let everyone know that the gate is now locked - it seems by the guy who lives in the caravan down the track. I had to climb the gate and walk - which is quite a walk and then leaves the problem of where to leave the car. I have let the BAA know so hope something can be done soon.
Cheers

Re: Uckinghall & Mythe

Mixer,
We may have met - I remember someone with strong views about this issue telling the story of the flap being stuck open and locking horns with the EA over it.
As a regular at Uckinghall (my pics of the 15 lb carp and the 12lb zander) I'd be willing to help intervene as this issue drives me mad as well - I'm pretty handy mechanically: - surely if it is simply a cast iron flap which has rusted stuck half open then we just need to get on the river in a boat (I have a kayak which is very stable and easy to launch from the river bank) with a can of WD40 - we might get it moving and then put some grease on it once moving. It may not cost anything to fix, but if it has completely had it, at least we could inspect it, take some pictures and then help the BAA get a quote organised to get it fixed professionally. As has been said, a lot of money has been spent on the banks, so not fixing this seems daft to me.

Re: closed season on BAA pools

I was actually interested in Walcott lake - I fish Mythe for pike regularly already but can't say I catch them regularly! Any positive sitings of pike appreciated as we don' have many pools in the BAA catering for predator hunters.
