Dyofix blue

Hi,
Noted the notification about adding Dyofix blue to Stubbs and Uckinghall but was wondering if it would stop the lillies growing, as the Dyofix website says it stops light reaching submerged weed, but of course the lillies sit on the top. Or perhaps is works by stopping them growing to the top in the first place? Has anybody fished it since and has it made any difference to the fishing - must have been anglers on there in the sun of the recent weekend.
Would be a shame if it stops all the lillies growing though, as surely this is a good source of food for the fish.
Might be worth trying in Mythe as that lake is full of weed in the summer.

Re: Holt Fleet Weir Fishery - Parking

Yes I have fished this quite a bit in the past and Johny_Care's reply is pretty well as it is and the details for parking have been changed to that effect in the Where to Fish section of the website. The parking on the road was stopped due to concerns about blocking emergency vehicles. The annoying thing is the farmer charges only £3 to fish his stretch with free parking but charges BAA anglers £5!! Feels like a rip off to me so I won't pay. Fortunately I don't live that far away so get the wife to drop me off and pick me up but this hassle has meant I've hardly fished it this last 12 months.
I guess the other option is park in the pub the other side of the bridge and buy a drink to keep the pub happy. Not that convenient for an early morning session though. Shame as it is a good fishery which has produced some good fish over the years.

Re: Uckinghall on sat

Mixer - if you read my post further up it will explain the BAA's current views on the subject of the pipe. I have tried to convince them that a new non-return valve would work but they have an overriding concern about the condition of the bank. Seems the decision is final to leave it as is.
As for the pool having too many predators - I really don't think there are that many in there or I would probably get a few more out. Also, since last year there has been a massive influx of bleak which can only have come in from the river via the pipe as it didn't come over the bank at all last winter. And there is plenty of evidence the zeds are feeding on those rather than the roach - I've seen them hammering into them further up the water levels - the bleak tend to feed in the top couple of feet. The biggest issue for the roach will be the bleak are now competing for the same food, but I guess it will even out eventually - with the pike and zeds eating each other anyway. I'd be surprised if there is more than 15 zeds in the pool in total - not seen any babies landed yet - which would come to worms or maggots, so no signs they have spawned in there yet.

Re: Zander and pike in uckinghall

I fish Uckinghall regularly and had two zeds from there last year - the biggest 12lb 2oz. Last winter I really fished it a lot - spending maybe 200 hours on it for pike and zeds. the results were unimpressive to say the least, and so my conclusions are either I'm a crap angler - quite likely - or there simply aren't that many in there. As someone else has said you probably stand a better chance fishing the rivers - I fished at Upton in December and had a zed on my first trip. Also had one on the Avon this winter, so think I will fish the rivers more and the pools less. They are in Mythe as well apparently, but I have never seen one banked.
The experts catch zeds from the Severn when it's going through like a train but its like sea fishing at Avonmouth with heavy leads and I have zero confidence when it's like that.

Re: Uckinghall on sat

As with my post regarding discussions with John Williams about Cotheridge, I also discussed the proposed repairs to the pipe at Uckinghall, which I have been discussing with them in terms of options.
The decision is that they are not going to do anything as they are concerned about the state of the bank between the river and the pool. This is apparently made up ground which is rather unsound, and the concern is that a difference in level with the river, if a new non-return valve is fitted, may cause the bank to collapse, which would mean an end to the pool obviously.
I'm not sure I entirely agree with that view, but I respect their decision.
But if I travel to Uckinghall and it is unfishable, as it probably is currently, then there is always Mythe just down the road.
Oh and by the way, I have suffered dropped runs recently and put it down to zander. I'm going to try using much smaller baits, single hooks and virtually freeline without bobbins on the line - they are so finicky. I also saw a dead one in the there the other week when it was frozen - must have been 7lb - couldn't get it out through the ice though.
