£200 plus for a days fishing - Are you mad?

It would seem by the posts concerning ''lockdown rules'' the BAA have a large number of members giving loads of reasons to go fishing, despite the government rules.
So they are prepared to take the risk of a £200 fine just for having a days fishing.
They must be nuts!
At todays prices, that is for a full member, five years subs and nearly seven years subs for us old gits.
The main ''lockdown'' point argued is the ''stay local'' rule.
If you travel anything over ten miles I would suggest you are taking a risk of being stopped and fined.
If you have passed other venues to get there, it is almost certain you will, if stopped, be fined.
The ANPR camera the cops have today, will get you every time.

Re: travel

Our prime minister traveled seven miles on his bike and it appears he did not break any rules.
I would use this as a guide to how far we should travel.
Then if stopped, I would point out how far he travelled and that I am governed by the same rules as he is.

Re: Retreat Farm Otters christmas dinner

I would not mind a £5 to £10 raise of subs if I was sure that the money was used to improve the experience of going out fishing.
I am not talking about catching fish, more about having quality pegs, quality access be it tracks or gates etc.
It would turn the clock back to when there was a close season and loads of volunteers used to do a lot of venue maintenance.
These days a lot of our waters are in a sorry state and difficult to fish for us old gits.
It is no use boasting about over two hundred miles of water if two thirds of the potential pegs are unfishable.
Spending a lot of money on a fishery where we don't own the land is a tricky one.
Putting fences around the pools at Retreat would be really expensive.
Would the land owner allow it?
Would the land owner be prepared to purchase the fencing if we lost the fishing rights?
It would enhance the fishery and a higher rent could be obtained, so he/she would have benefits from keeping it fenced.
If not we would have the option of removing it, if we had to relinquish the venue.

Re: Otters back at Retreat

There is no mention in my post of not having a fence, so, onelastcast, I don't know what you are babbling about.
Prevention is ALWAYS better than cure!
A simple buried chicken wire around a fence perimeter would probably suffice, which should keep out any diggers.

Re: Otters back at Retreat

Any otter-proof fence also needs to be badger and fox proof too.
It is no solution if animals can dig holes through which otters just walk to get their dinner.
