Re: Pershore barbel

I completely agree with you about Pershore. It really is in a poor run of form. The matches we had last year were far lower weights than usual. It seemed only a few pegs had a decent number of fish on them. This was usually the middle boatyard section. Never came across evidence to suggest there were otters present. Maybe the cormorants have been visiting. The decent catches of chub have been difficult to achieve. Not the reliable venue it once was, hopefully this year will be better.

Re: River Salwarpe

Some interesting contributions to this thread. I may be tempted to make another visit before the season ends. The mobile approach does sound like a sensible line of attack. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.

Re: River Salwarpe

The last match I fished at Claines was 7/8 years ago. Fur & Feather so similar time of year. I was 2nd place with 2oz. So quite a depressing scene really. A lovely looking venue but not planning a return anytime soon. Hope the cormorant sightings are being reported via the on-line site.

River Salwarpe

Has anyone fished this river during 2017?
Made a visit, week before Xmas and it was dreadful. We headed for the meadow nearer the River Severn as there were lads pike fishing in the first meadow below the road. Traffic noise here by the way is pretty awful. I fished pole, 0.75g float with a 20 hook and caught what I would describe as embryonic sized fish and a few "larger" blades. A single pinkie or a small punch of bread over some crumb did the "damage". Fishes well when the Severn is up at the back end of the year or something like that says the web site info. My pal fished a small waggler and never had a touch. There was a decent 5' depth and steady flow but the river looked almost lifeless. The adjacent canal (Not BAA) by the way was crystal clear but plenty of roach/perch were visible.

Mini 20 AC Newhalls Meadow 9/12/17

1. Steve Knight 6lb (float caught Dace)
2. Andy Lacey 15oz (2 x Roach)
3. Mark Stewart 11oz
4. Dick Washbrook 4oz

When KDAA cancel their Bewdley match because of the conditions you know its going to be a tough day. Respect to all those that turned out on a difficult day in freezing conditions. Madness!!
