Re: Fly Fishing BAA Waters

Parachute Adams is the fly I turn to when exploring unfamiliar river territory. We're approaching mayfly season so most appropriate patterns should bring takes when the fish switch on to them. Lunn's Spent Gnat is a mayfly pattern that was developed over 100 years ago but still works very well (and I've had trout out of the Teme on it!). Tight lines and do let us know how you get on!

Re: Float fishing the Severn

...and a very pleasant afternoon it was too (I was on one of the pegs closest to the car park at Coomby's), despite being hopelessly out of practice on the float! A nice bag of mixed small silvers (mainly dace but with a few roach, chub and inevitable bleak), although just a tad dissapointed that none of the better roach or chub made an appearance. A nice change from sitting behind two feeder rods - although here's hoping today's rain prompts a few inches and a bit of colour in the next few days.

Re: Float fishing the Severn

Depends on the conditions for me. If the water's low and clear (like now) then I'll be on the float with maggots, casters (and tares if the roach start showing). Come a rise and some colour then I'll chase the barbel.

Re: Rivers

Any of the sections between Bewdley and Bridgnorth should do you fine. Just bear in mind that the river needs to have a foot or two of water on and a bit of colour to fish at its best (you can check river levels at the EA website). If it's low and clear you're best off fishing for perch and silvers during the day and then breaking out the barbel gear towards evening. Good luck!
