Re: Ukinghall

I agree with Mr Meat, I was bowled over when I first clapped eyes on Uckinghall, although it's an old clay pit (I believe) it feels like a proper natural pool. I like having the lilies, the fish love them and you can see the fronds moving about as the fish push through them. There are more than enough clear pegs to let you fish away from them (but in my eyes they are an obvious feature to be fished around). The stamp of bream and tench is decent and you can fish traditional methods and baits for them (my biggest tench out of Uckinghall came on a lobworm, and my biggest bream on breadflake). I think the fact that it's not stockable due to river incursions works in its favour, although that of course doesn't guarantee a big bag of fish every time you go (a solitary skimmer saved me from a blank last time I went).

It's where I intend to spend much of my summer, before heading to the rivers in August.

Eastham Bridge

Just to advise that the bridge over the River Teme at Eastham collapsed today and so the road will be closed for the foreseeable future. Anyone wanting to access the right bank fisheries on the Teme in the Eastham / Lindridge / Eardiston area will have to head up to Tenbury Wells and the double back.

I'd just parked up prior to a trout fishing session when it happened. Extraordinary sight to see a lovely old Bridge disappear in a matter of seconds. Just fortunate that no-one was on it when it went.

Forden

Hoping to get out for a bit of trout fishing before the coarse season starts; am familiar with the Teme and Lugg, but less so with the Upper Severn. Have fished Aberbechan a few times but recognise that access is tricky along much of that length; Forden looks like a good long stretch of river, just wondering if anyone has any recent experience of it and can say how accessible it is - or isn't... 'tis a long drive so would want to get my petrol's worth! Cheers!

Re: Uckinghall Tench

No problem! And thanks for all the bank work you chaps did while we were there.

Uckinghall Tench

Hoping for a few perch and bream (not to mention the odd eel or two) in amongst the April showers, pleasantly surprised when this immaculate tench grabbed my bait (a lobworm tail) and led me a merry dance on light-ish tackle for a few minutes. Bang on 5lbs. Don't usually fish for them until the lilies are up!
