b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC 5th & Final Contest of 2023 - B-W Canal Stoke Prior

Hello Fellow d’anglers,
Well with an Overnight Frost that brought the the Air temperature down to “MINUS 1.5 Degrees” at the Waterside when we got there at 7am and according to Stew1955 our resident Meteorologist
who had been monitoring the dropping Temperature of the Water in the Staffy, he has been recording the temperature and that there had been a drop in the water temperature of at least 2 degrees, (one less than the singing group)

The Large shoal of bream in the famous “Sherwood stretch” was no where to be found, in fact Bream and Skimmers were almost completely absent!
However Mal Causer had a beautiful 1lb 8oz 8dr Roach in his catch, caught on a pinkie!

The 2 Minutes Silence was Immaculately Observed at 11am - WE DID REMEMBER THEM!

Our Total Weight from the 15 d’anglers that fished was 20lb 12oz 8dr.
Top Five Weights
1). Charlie Bigchub 4lb 1oz 8dr. A good Bream-hybrid on bread flake close in skimmers and Roach
2). Mal Causer 3lb 13oz 8dr A big Roach and mix of Roach & Perch, caught from under the boat on Pinkies
3). MrFishyDavid 3lb 11oz including a nice hybrid Roach-Bream and mixed on maggot
4). MrFishyBrian 3lb 1oz 12dr including a Bream of 2lb 6oz and mixed
EQUAL FIFTH with 1lb 5oz 8dr
5). bin, with a mix of Roach, Perch, Ruff
5). Norm, with a mix of Roach and Perch
The remaining d’anglers did well to catch ounces of fish as it was so cold.
Only one did not weigh!

So that was it for 2023, all Contests done! Roll on 2024 and our next 5 Contests that we have already booked, giving us lone d’anglers the chance to meet up again.

For those fishing the B-W Canal between now and Christmas

I had a chat with a C& RT chap who was on the Towpath and I told him that I was surprised at the fact that only ONE BOAT had passed through during our 5 hour Contest.

There has been a Tunnel Collapse up by Tardebigge, it will be another 6 weeks at least before it will be reopened and the towpath repaired, so no boats..

Which means great to

Keep on Fishing….

Re: b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC - Issac Walton Plate - to be presented to the 2023 Contests Aggregate Winner

bin,
Thank you for your kind words, but this is a club that works because everyone who is a member wants it to work.

I am certain that Keith Carlingford would have much preferred to have been running the proceedings than having to work, but as Arnie famously said “He will be back”, I am only the temporary custodian.

Without the Help and Support that you have provided bin, with the Tools to run the Contests, and my fellow members that have helped with admin and the Peggers and Weighers on Contest Days these 5 Contests to date would not have happened, and Collective Enjoyment and our Mental Health and General Wellbeing would not have been lifted like I know it has!

So yes the dark nights and short days are here, but I know that some of you have already planned (to use my favourite expression) Keep on Fishing…
Some will be
Stalking the Barbel and Chub on Wild Waters
Some will be trying the Pools or just keep on fishing the Staffy

We have 5 Contests booked for 2024 that will lift the Winter Blues, something to look forward to so that we can all

Keep on Fishing….

b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC - Issac Walton Plate - to be presented to the 2023 Contests Aggregate Winner

Hello Fellow d’anglers,
Our fifth and final contest of 2023 that we will be fishing on Saturday 11th November will also confirm our contest’s Aggregate winner?

The current holder of the Issac Walton Plate is Stew1955, and he will be returning this on Saturday, so that it can then be presented to our 2023 Contests Aggregate Winner!

The Winner will then be responsible for its safekeeping for the year ahead, as it will be fished for again across our 5 Contests that we have for 2024.

Looking forward to seeing all our fellow d’anglers at Stoke Prior on Saturday.

Re: b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC - Contest #5 B-W Canal Br42-43 on Sat 11th Nov - updated 6th NOV

Hi AL, AGSWOLVES.
Thank you for confirming that your name will be in the Draw Bag for our last contest of the year on Saturday!
You become our 15th Contestant!

WHAT can I add to the Many Posts that my fellow b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC members have shared with us all since Carlingford Keith set up this “Online d’angling Club”?

THANK YOU ALL, that is what I can say, THANK YOU!
Between us all, WE HAVE MADE IT WORK!

I also know that we have “Enriched Our Lives”, Coming out of an enforced lockdown where the daily associations with others impacted considerably on everyone.
Therefore these first five contests that have been fished (including our initial contest at Wolverley) has helped what were in effect a bunch of lone d’anglers, to become a
“happy band of d’angler brothers”

We have our final contest this coming Saturday 11 November - Armistice Day. -
We Shall Remember Them

Looking forward to seeing you Al along with all our fellow d’anglers

Keep on Fishing…

Re: Cradley Heath Labour AC fished on the Staffs /Worcs canal at Hinksford 5/11/23

Hi Ollie,
Well there were some fireworks at Hinksford today, unlike the damp squib that we had last week!

What a cracking result for your Top Four Anglers to weigh in almost 29lb of fish.
It just shows the quality of the fishing that it available on these “Wild Waters”

Thanks for posting your results and the methods that caught, it is very much appreciated.

Keep on Fishing….
