Stacklands query

Having fished Stacklands a number of times now I am after some advice. I have caught some very nice fish from the top field swims but it seems many of these are not fishable during the summer due to chest high nettles. Also it seems that the deeper runs are towards the opposite bank and the water is very shallow and weedy towards the BAA bank. The second field swims seem a little more varied but due to dropped sections of bank on the opposite side I am always plagued by dogs swimming. The field from the bridge up seems to have the deepest water and access is good but I have never had any barbel from this area. A few canoeists on Wednesday when I fished there but not too dirsuptive. What are peoples thoughts on this beat?

Re: Apperley

Lets face it, the BAA is about rivers. They have tons of decent access to rivers for a great price which is why I joined. They only ever had a small handfull of pools from what I can see and some of these are 'ok' but can often be hit or miss. Coppice and Uckinghal are the best of the bunch I have fished. Apperley and the Mythe do have fish but you will blank regularly at these waters or eek out the odd fish.
If you want to fish lakes there are plenty in the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire/Oxfordshire area from comercial to specimen that are a much better bet and not too expensive or busy.

Re: Apperley

I have never had much from Apperley. I fished a few times last year including winter and had a small jack and a few small rudd. Would be interested to know if anyone has caught tench or carp out of there in recent years as they are often talked about but rarely seen? I dont mind the fact its a little wild as tthis can often add to a venue but if is void of any sizable fish then time maybe better spent elsewhere. I suspect its proximity to the river means it can be impacted during floods so woner if this plays a part. When was it last stocked with anything?

Re: apperley, uckinghall, mythe farm ??????

Sorry for late response - been away. Horcott is a favourite on the Cotswolds pits, Bradleys and other Watermark lakes and also linear complex near Witney.
You can catch at Mythe and Uckinghall but they can be tricky and Mythe is very much a dawn start water I am told if you want to get the best.

Re: apperley, uckinghall, mythe farm ??????

All three are very tough waters to fish and could all probably do with some fresh stock as I think they have all been decimated by floods and predation over they years. Blanks are not uncommon. Ukinghall is probably the best of the three. To be honest I joined for the rivers, if I want to fish a stillwater I normally go elsewhere (Cotswolds gravel pits) or Linear. Or if you want a short session try a canal.
