Re: Treble hooks

Yeah under the local bylaw section. You need to keep an eye on the NRW site as well as many bylaws in Wales on the Wye apply in England (the treble hooks by law has been proposed by the NRW for example and if it goes through it’ll apply the length of the Wye, including the river in England)
I been experimenting with single hook flying c’s. I make all of my own and the only way I can see them working is putting them on a split ring so they can turn.
Personally I’d prefer the NRW/EA to concentrate on things like fish eating bird predation in the spawning grounds and pollution from poultry farms that further coming up with ways that make it harder for anglers to catch fish!

Re: Treble hooks

Ive landed every pike I’ve hooked on salmon gear. Two hooked last week by an angler using a Rapala, both landed and returned safely.

I think the rule stops the blurred line of fishing for course fish outside the course season.

Also, the method of spinning for salmon is different to spinning for pike. For instance, you are not gonna get away with drop shotting for salmon! Lure fishing for pike you are trying to mimic an injured bait fish, the retrieve is very different.

Not a massive fan of spinning for salmon regardless, a necessary evil.

Re: Treble hooks

So, Wye bylaws are:

No worming at any time
No prawns at any time
Artificial lures only
Treble hooks still allowed (for now, this season at least)
No wire traces (outside course season)
Spinning or fly only. No spinning at all on the Wye after August 1st until October 19th

A gentle reminder that landing nets are compulsory on all BAA water.

I’m on the bank most days if anyone needs any help or clarification. Although I wouldn’t bother this weekend as the rivers rising and coloured so save yourselves a journey. Should be fishable again by mid/end of week.

Stacklands Access

Hi all,

Just to let everyone know the Farmer has padlocked the gate to access the Stacklands Car Park due to the field being waterlogged. You can still access the fishery by climbing over the gate.

Cheers
