Re: Annual renewals

Why change a system ( annual membership tying in with current padlock system) that isn’t broke ??

For the cost of membership no hardship in getting out of the car to open gates.

Hard enough keeping hold of padlocks as is, anything more technical would certainly disappear probably with the whole gates as well.

The remote access idea may work on a private syndicate pool with limited membership but not on BAA waters.

Saw this on Middle Severn today 22/11/21

Given the recent reports of pollution, Is the the result of pollution of our rivers ? This is the second one I’ve seen in recent weeks on the same stretch- the first one was dead and half eaten possibly by otters. Sad to see. Sorry about the poor quality had to grab from video clip ( cannot transfer from phone to iPad and cannot access BAA web site on phone !!)

Re: Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

Thanks Chris, your last two posts have it in a nutshell.

Re: Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

Tend to partly agree with you Haddon, but no matter how many bailiffs are recruited the BAA have so much water that no matter how good a job the Bailiffs are doing it’s difficult task. Like the non member you spoke to “poachers” like common thieves, will always take the easiest quietest option.

The bottom line is that there is little or no risk or punishment when fishing without the correct membership, other than being asked to leave.

Re: Night fishing and bad behavior at Fladbury

At the risk of repeating previous posts, OLC although it’s been a couple of years since I last visited Fladbury I can visualise the layout of the Nait and meadow quite well (i think).

Couple of points, firstly the bottles being thrown onto the island - undoubtedly anti social behaviour to which there is no defence whatsoever. And if seen by locals the blame will be clearly on the BAA, wether the guilty party are members or not. Very difficult to police unless caught in the act or evidence provided from any witness.

Next point, on the subject of swims being baited up, not sure this can be treated as anti social behaviour. Everyone will have their own view on how much bait to use. On a typical match of say 20 anglers fishing a 5 hour match collectively how much bait is used, how many days a week. A difficult one to agree on. I’m sure we have seen anglers on the opposite bank fishing in way or method that maybe personally we think wrong or odd, but not necessary wrong !

Now on to the member who was booked on. Firstly, I do not know if he and a mate where to blame or not. Only the witness to the incident will know for sure. However, depending on exactly where the member was fishing it is quite possible they were not witness to anything untoward given the trees being in leaf and high undergrowth, was it dark at the time. I think it would be easier to see from the opposite bank. On reading one of the previous posts about members being booked on and finding other people not booked on planning to night fish gives food for thought. Could the Security Guard be asked to check night permits along with BAA membership cards.

On this occasion I doubt we will never get to bottom of who is to blame ……..
