Re: ELECTRO FISHING CANALS

Mr JW...

Thanks for explaining.

Do you know if angling clubs renting canal stretches have any say on whether this activity is carried out or not?

The reason I ask is that there are stretches of local Canals such as the Grand Union at Hatton etc, where 20 years ago the clubs that rented them asked members not to put zander back.

These days, some of those waters are rented by predator angling clubs, often because of the high numbers of zander, so you can imagine a conflict of interests...

Re: I lost half my roach to thieving Pike - now I want to catch one (Lower Avon)

Hi Stew

At the end of the gin clear match on the previous weekend, I did try the one lure that I keep in my box, pulling it straight past the nose of pike that ignored it! For that reason I treated myself to a set of lures that I was recommended. Have a google of savage gear 3D paddle tail roach.

They are soft and look like they've been made by madame tussauds with have more twerk than Beyonce and the judder fooled me that I'd reeled in 400 roach!

There were a couple of other people that said the water was too coloured. That's my excuse and i'm sticking to it! May need a different excuse on Oct 28th! Too windy, too cold, too hot, too many boats. Oh Carp! I've just checked and it's the start of the School October boat fest!

Re: I lost half my roach to thieving Pike - now I want to catch one (Lower Avon)

Thanks Reg & Stew for advising/asking...

Yes I did go on Sunday. I'd seen the river level websites (2ft up on Sat) and checked Sunday morning expecting it to be only 1ft up by 10am, but It was far more coloured than I expected and neither me/brother had a sniff on the lure but I'm new to such methods.

I started at Pensham (no good), then went to have a quick look at Wick to see only 1 car even though it was booked. The club had decided not to fish and went somewhere else. The initial access to Wick was well water logged but I was pleased how comfortable so many the pegs looked.

Half the cars that we'd previously seen when crossing the bridge at Pershore had gone by lunch time too, so I guess that club left early..

On the way home, we passed Fladbury, and that club had left by 1.30pm too! We had a walk from the weir to the very bottom peg with most pallets were underwater!

Most anglers we saw were fishing carp rods with meat, hoping for a barbel.

In hindsight it was probably a little too coloured for lure fishing but at least it felt warmer in the sun than the temperature gauge suggested. I expect another day or 2 and will become perfect tinge of colour before it becomes clear again.

I lost half my roach to thieving Pike - now I want to catch one (Lower Avon)

Last week I fished a match at Pershore RB and nearly all of us had & lost pike, so I was thinking of having a pleasure session specifically targeting them.

With the Severn levels high & rising, I was thinking of going back to the Avon but Pershore is booked on Sunday 14th.

I'm sure all stretches will have some pike, but I was wondering which other BAA lower Avon stretches are equally or even more prolific for pike as Pershore please?

Re: ELECTRO FISHING CANALS

Reg/Baldy...

A minor technicality but Mr W's post said 'non native', which might not mean the same as the word you used 'invasive'. I don't actually know the definition or specific difference, and how long species must have resided in the UK for it to be classed as 'native'?

I always thought that if a human (not fish) was born in the UK, they were 'native' to the UK even if the parents were from another country?

I guess if they did take all the carp out, then it would be a challenge to catch one!

Ironically, the original message has actually caused rumours / speculations by not explicitly naming the species that they will be removing!

Mr JW... You have been given this invite "If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me"

So, for the avoidance of doubt, please ask Carl if he can elaborate on what fish they are hoping to remove?
